Features to know about

Save Time on the Water: Pre-Greased and Ready to Install

No need to pack bearings or mess with seal installation. The CE Smith Trailer Idler Hub Assembly comes pre-greased and ready to use right out of the box. It’s prepped with heavy-duty marine grease that’s made for wet environments, so you can slide it onto your spindle and get back to hauling without delay. The outer bearing is already installed, saving you another step during setup.

Built for Harsh Marine Conditions: Galvanized Protection that Lasts

Saltwater and road spray are tough on trailer parts, but this hub’s galvanized finish keeps corrosion at bay. The zinc plating extends to the lug nuts, cotter pin, and grease cap, helping resist rust on every piece that’s exposed. Sturdy iron construction gives the hub a strong base that holds up to steady use around water year after year.

Everything You Need in One Package: Complete Hub Assembly

This assembly includes everything—L68149 inner bearing, L44649 outer bearing, both corresponding races (L68111 and L44610), grease seal 58846, cap, lug nuts, and cotter pin. It fits 3,500-lb axles with #84 spindles and works with 13" to 15" wheels using a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. With all parts included, there’s no hunting for individual pieces when it’s time to replace or keep a spare ready.

Compact and Convenient: Keep a Spare Ready for the Road

The included carrying case keeps everything clean and organized so you can store it as a backup in your tow vehicle or trailer box. With a handle for easy transport and compact size, this hub assembly is ideal for quick roadside swaps if a bearing fails. Having a fully greased spare ready means less downtime and more peace of mind wherever you tow.

1. Count the lug holes

Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).

Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug

2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.

Center to Center
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"

2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).

Center to Outside Edge
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

The product looks like good quality, the only issue was it was packaged with only 4 lug nuts instead of 5.

by:

Everything fit perfectly thank you Etra iler!!

by:

It was shipped fast. Customer service was great. It went on easy I'll test them out this weekend.

by:

Fast service.

by:

Because I use my boat in salt water, the hubs and drums on my boat trailer were so rusty I couldn't get the wheels off without removing the old hubs. etrailer offered the perfect solution at a reasonable price plus the how-to videos were a big help. The new hub assembly fit perfectly and has been working great.

by:

I got the greased one this time and that was pretty sweet. I greased the axle, slipped it on and tightened it down, greased it a few squirts until grease came past the washer.

by:

Wonderful product. Everything was perfect except I received 4 wheel lug nuts for my five stud wheels. This was not a big issue since I had 5 extras from my old hubs.

by:

This hub was received on-time and exactly as described. It is a very convenient compact package to put the old hub in to carry along on longer trips, along with the few tools needed to do a future roadside repair if needed.
When the shipment was received one of the cases had broken latches. The e-trailer representative was quick to contact the manufacturer for me, and I had a replacement case within days. Way to go Lauren! I look forward to ordering from etrailer again in the future.

I change my hubs and bearings out every 24 months. I have been through 6 sets of these. These kits make it so easy. I also carry 2 as spares, just in case. You can grease them from the back and push the grease forward. I use bearing buddies, but you really do not have too!

Great Product!!

by:

Very good item

by:

Outside bearing was not packed with grease. Very skeptical of the service life on these.

by:

The bearings are just placed in the hub in grease. They were not packed with grease to insure proper lubrication. As expected from the price range they came with china bearings. They fit properly and the galvanized coating should provide protection from water.

by:

I have an old trailer that a hub went out. The CE Smith pre-Greased Idler Hub Assembly is exactly what I needed to get up and running again. Simple process of remove the tire, remove the old hub install and seat the new hub, adjust castle nut for proper tightness and I was towing again with my trailer.

by:

Great product for the price. It will take a few months to find out how the product holds up.

by:

I wish all my boat and trailer parts suppliers were as efficient and responsive as etrailer. No worries about when my orders will arrive. Had 2 separate orders. Tires/ wheels and hub assembly.

by:

Seems to be a great quality product. I have the hubs installed but haven’t pulled the trailer yet.

by:

The three people who I dealt with were great. I can’t wait for the new parts to arrive so I can finish the project

It’s working great. Before I took the trailer out I added more grease to the bearings and they work fine. It’s all about proper maintenance and you won’t have issues on the road.

@Dan I 100% agree on your last statement! A trailer needs routine maintenance just like the vehicle that tows it.

by:

Super easy install. Excellent product. Hub temps have stayed at or below 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Pre greased makes for a no mess install.

by:

Thus is a great product but they have to provide a properly shown photo of what this actually is..... ive brought the wrong product twice. Due to the pre packed grease being different from what is on my ez lube trailer. Unfortunately the fittings are contaminated with lithium grease so you need to be consistent with what you apply..... No one mentioned that to me until I was about to put it on. They just need to change the photo to have it with the blue grease instead of the red. Its not E trailers fault its the actual company itself.

The color of the grease in these hubs does not matter as much as the type of grease, lithium based. I have seen the same hubs come in with different colors, it used to be a bigger deal but lithium based grease is not made in one color so it is hard to show exactly what it will be. As long as it is lithium based it will work well.

by:

After speaking to customer service and providing existing information, it was suggested to purchase 2 of these. When they arrived, I tried to install but they were the wrong size. I packed them up and put them away as not sure how I can do a return to get my full funds back given how messy with grease they are.

by:

The bearings were supposed to be pre greased, but were not. There was grease in the hub but the bearings had not been packed with grease. Other than that, the fit was good.

by:

I should have purchased a hub kit to carry in my truck years ago. Luckily I've never needed it. I tried this hub kit on my boat trailer while I had the factory hub off for it's annual service. The CE Smith fit perfectly and I'll now have peace of mind while I'm on the road.

by:

Great quality. Easy installation and customer service helped me get the right hub for my boat trailer.

by:

  • What is a #84 Spindle and How Do I Know I Have One On My Trailer?
The #84 spindle is just a common way to identify the spindle dimensions typically used for 3,500 lb axles. So instead of listing out the parts, people can just say they have #84 spindles and it's easier to know what fits it. The CE Smith Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # CE13515 uses the following parts: Inner bearing: L68149 (1.378" inner diameter) Outer bearing: L44649 (1.063" inner diameter) Grease Seal: 58846 (1.719" inner diameter and 2.565" outer diameter) As long as this matches what...

  • Replacement Hub for Load Rite 19R20 Trailer
Hi Don; I wasn't able to find anything with the model number and even if I could, I would only be guessing at the axle size for a replacement hub. You will need to identify your axle to find the right hub. You can either look for an axle tag or pull the existing hubs off to check bearings. Then you can look for the bearing part numbers or measure the inner diameter with a digital caliper # PTW80157. The # 8-258-50UC1-EZ you asked about is designed for 2,200 lb axles with # L44649 inner...

Thanks for reaching out, Michael, and yes, I can help. I looked up the Karavan part number 310-0347-A and it appears this is a hub for a standard 3,500 lb axle. It uses the # L68149 (1.378" inner diameter) inner bearing and the # L44649 (1.063" inner diameter) outer bearing. They mention it is a 5 bolt hub, so I assume it is the standard 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern since the rest of the specs seem to be standard. Hey William, thanks for reaching out. Yes a spare hub is definitely a good idea. I can certainly point you in the right direction, but there isn't a way to look up your trailer to know exactly what hubs it uses. There isn't a universal database for trailers like there is for motor vehicles. We can still find out what you need though. Assuming that is correct, you can use the Kodiak Trailer Hub for 3,500-lb Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 - Stainless Steel # KH84545S you were looking at.
